Fold Hill Foods recalls several cat food products because of safety concerns (pancytopenia)

Fold Hill Foods recalled several dry cat food products because of safety concerns. There had been an increase in cases of pancytopenia in cats and a possible link to the cat food products listed in the notice. Pancytopenia is a very rare condition in which the number of blood cells (red, white and platelets) rapidly decreases.

Affected products: Applaws dry cat food lines (Chicken, Chicken & Salmon, Chicken & Lamb, Chicken & Duck, Ocean Fish, Senior Chicken, Kitten Chicken; best-before dates December 2022 to June 2023, batch code NA); AVA dry cat food lines (Kitten Chicken, Adult Chicken, Adult Fish, Mature Chicken 7+, Senior Chicken 12+, Sensitive Skin & Stomach, Weight Management, Hairball, Oral Care, British Shorthair, Persian, Maine Coon; all batch codes); and Sainsbury's Hypoallergenic Recipe complete dry cat food with Salmon and with Chicken (800g; all batch codes).

Cat owners were advised to stop feeding the affected products and to seek immediate advice from a vet if their cat was unwell. This was one of the most significant UK pet food incidents of recent years.
